A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE ON LOTTERIES AND GAMBLING

WAYS TO DEFEAT LOTTERY GAMBLING

1.  Lead your church to adopt a formal statement of opposition to lottery gambling.

2.  Form a steering committee committed to leading the church in defeating lottery gambling.

3.  Start a voter registration drive. Cards can be obtained from your county courthouse. Generally, only 50% of the eligible voters in your church are registered.

4.  Get out the vote – educate the people on the importance of voting for anti-lottery candidates, especially in primaries where your vote counts more. Provide transportation to the polls. Provide child and/or elderly care to allow families the opportunity to vote.

6.  Establish prayer groups for the purpose of intercession.

7.  Organize telephone committees to call people asking them to call legislators to urge them to vote against the lottery.

8.  Share testimonies in church and other places about the evils of gambling.

9.  Work on public relations – use mail-outs, publications, media outlets, signboards, radio and other opportunities to educate people on the value of a NO vote on lottery gambling. Use bumper stickers, letters to the editor and other opportunities to encourage the legislature to vote NO on lottery gambling.

10. Preach sermons on gambling and speak to civic groups against gambling.
